I did not ask for the life I was given
but it was given nonetheless. And with it I did my best.

Character: Mr. Eko Series/Fandom: Lost Original or Alternate: Original Age: 36 Gender: Male Species: Human Sexuality: Heterosexual
I once was lost but now am found
Appearance: Mr. Eko is of average height, with a strong, stocky build and dark skin. His hair and beard have a ragged and uncut look about them, which is to be expected after two months on a deserted island. He speaks with a Nigerian accent, dresses as a Catholic priest and wears a small silver cross around his neck. He also always carries a short stick that doubles as both a club and a walking stick, and usually hangs from his belt; it is carved with scripture. Personality: Eko is surprisingly unpredictable. For the most part he is silent and thoughtful, often seeming faintly amused by what is going on around him. He is very religious, and can quote the Bible with ease; he also often uses biblical stories or parables to back up a point he wishes to make. Very little ever seems to surprise him or take him off-guard, although he shares very little of what he is thinking or doing with others. On the other hand, however, he can be incredibly violent, and is not above simply throwing someone out of a room or hitting them upside the head with his stick if he is tired of them. He is inscrutable and unpredictable, and it’s always hard to know what he will do next or why.
was blind, but now I see
Abilities/Strengths: His faith is his greatest strength, mostly because it is what allows him to keep his cool in any situation. He is also a very skilled fighter with everything from clubs to knives to guns. What’s more, he is ruthless and although he may feel regret about his actions, he will not hesitate in the heat of the moment to act. Weaknesses: His past, and the guilty feelings he associates with it. He blames himself for his brother’s death, and often dreams of him. He has a very short temper and it often causes him to do things he later regrets. He also always does what he thinks if right, and will stubbornly refuse to change his course. Notable Possessions: Eko always carries his “Jesus stick”, a short thick branch that can be used as a club or a walking stick. It is completely covered in carved scripture verses and quotes, with twine wrapped around the grip. One end is covered with dried blood. He also always wears a small silver cross on a leather cord around his next which he gave to his brother as a child and later reclaimed after he found his body.
how precious did that grace appear
History: Eko was born in a small village in Nigeria, and spent his whole childhood looking after his younger brother Yemi. One day while he and the other children were playing a gang of guerrillas arrived looking for young recruits. They gave Yemi a gun and ordered him to shoot an elderly man. When it became clear he was not going to, Eko took the gun from his brother and shot the man himself. The guerrillas were impressed by this act and took him with them. Eko grew up to become a fearless warlord and guerrilla leader. He acquired a large amount of heroin which he needed to smuggle out of the country. He contacted Yemi, who had become the priest at the church in his home village, and requested that his brother sign forms that would allow him and his men to pass as priests, as well as giving them the use of the church’s plane and 500 Virgin Mary statues he would use to smuggle the drugs. When Yemi initially refused, Eko threatened to burn down his church and he reluctantly signed the forms. Eko and his men disguised themselves as priests and began loading the drugs onto the plane. However Yemi tipped off the military before arriving to beg Eko to change his mind. When the soldiers arrived a gunfight broke out and Yemi was shot. Eko helped get him into the plane but was then thrown out and watched the aircraft with his dying brother trapped inside disappear. The soldiers, mistaking him for Yemi, took him back to the village where he took over his brother’s responsibilities at the church. Soon afterwards a local gang showed up to take the shipment of vaccines the village had just received. Eko sent them away and attempted to sell the vaccines himself. When the guerrillas heard they returned and threatened to cut off his hand; Eko killed them all. The village, horrified by his actions, boarded up the church and Eko traveled to London as part of a trip Yemi had planned to take. He continued to masquerade as a priest and later went to Sydney, Australia. He had just acquired the forged papers that would get him to the United States when the senior priest at his church asked him to investigate a girl who had apparently drowned but come back to life just during the autopsy. Eko did not believe the story, but at the airport leaving for Los Angeles, the girl appeared and told him she had a message from Yemi; have faith. He never reached his destination, as Oceanic flight 815 crashed over the pacific. The tail section broke off in midair and landed in the water near a mysterious island. Eko helped pull many passengers to safety and also fished out the dead bodies. That night the group was attacked by the mysterious Others and Eko killed two while resisting an attempted kidnapping; he felt so guilty about his actions that he did not speak for 40 days and only then to comfort fellow survivor Ana Lucia. When Jin, Michael and Sawyer washed up on their beach Eko knocked them unconscious and dragged them back to a pit Ana Lucia had dug in the jungle. After their innocence was proven the three led them back to their beach. When Sawyer collapsed from a gunshot wound Eko carried him the rest of the way to their camp, where he encountered Locke and the Hatch. He began fitting in with the other survivors but upon discovering a Virgin Mary statue in Charlie’s possession he demanded that he take him to where he had found it. On the way Eko had an encounter with the “monster”, a mysterious cloud of black smoke which he faced down calmly until it vanished. Charlie led him to the plane where he had found the statue – the same plane that Yemi had been trapped in. He burned the plane and his brother’s body, then began building a church back at the beach. He also baptized Claire and her baby. Later, after a dream involving Yemi he followed Locke into the jungle, supposedly to help him look for the missing “Henry Gale” but really to convince him to take him to the location his brother had mentioned in the dream; the question mark. This search led them back to the plane, and they discovered the Pearl station. Eko also took over pushing the button in the Hatch when Locke lost his faith, even going so far as to physically throw Locke out when he attempted to destroy the computer. Later, though, Locke and Desmond tricked him into leaving and triggered a lockdown to let the timer on the computer run down. Frantically Eko convinced Charlie to take him to the Black Rock for dynamite and managed to blow down the door to the Hatch, but it was too late. The timer ran out, and Eko was in the Hatch when Desmond turned the failsafe key and it imploded. He managed to survive, but was dragged into the jungle by a polar bear and then rescued by Locke and Charlie who carried his injured and semi-conscious body back to camp.
